Walking Thomastown 2024
Get ready to light up the night! Thomastown is set to sparkle on the final day of winter as the beloved Walking Thomastown event returns, promising an unforgettable evening filled with lights, music, art, culture, and community connection.
Taking place on Saturday, 31 August, from 6 pm to 9 pm, this free event will transform Thomastown into a glowing wonderland, celebrating the end of winter in style.
The magical journey begins at dusk at Main Street Recreation Reserve and winds along Edgars Creek, through the historic pioneer precinct at Westgarthtown, and ends at Ziebell’s Farmhouse Museum and Heritage Garden. Along the way, you’ll experience a visual feast of unique light installations and projections that illuminate Thomastown’s hidden treasures.
There’s something for everyone! Enjoy live music from local artists, cultural performances celebrating our diverse heritage, creative lantern-making activities, and more.
Walking Thomastown is presented by the City of Whittlesea and its local facility, Thomastown Recreation and Aquatic Centre (TRAC), in collaboration with Friends of Westgarthtown,
Yarra Plenty Regional Libraries, and Thomastown Neighbourhood House.
This year’s theme, ‘Hope,’ was chosen in consultation with the Thomastown community.
Chair Administrator Lydia Wilson shared her excitement for this cherished event, stating:
“Walking Thomastown is a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together, celebrate our unique history, and look forward to the future with hope. We are thrilled to see this event grow each year and are excited to showcase Thomastown in such a vibrant light.”
“We are expecting this year’s Walking Thomastown to be the most successful yet.”
